Application photos are constraint-driven tasks: the physical dimensions, aspect ratio, crop, and output file must match a stated requirement. This focused collection brings those presets together instead of asking users to calculate them manually.

Choose the destination or exact size first, position the subject using the visible guide, and download the prepared image. Always compare the result with the current instructions from the receiving authority, because acceptance rules can change independently of pixel dimensions.

Begin with the exact application route. A passport, visa and profile form for the same place can request different photographs, and some appointments capture the image directly. Record the current authority's width, height, accepted format, background and head-position rules before selecting a preset. Do not assume one country's dimensions apply to another document type.

Physical print size and digital pixels are separate measurements. A printer's fit-to-page setting can change the physical dimensions of a correctly prepared raster. For print submission, check the output with a ruler at the actual print scale. For a digital upload, check the saved file's pixel dimensions and bytes against the portal rather than judging the preview alone.

Crop from a sharp original with room around the head and shoulders. Enlarging an undersized image cannot restore facial detail; compressing one too hard can soften features and create artefacts. Inspect lighting, expression, shadows and the background against the receiving authority's instructions. A visible framing guide helps composition but cannot approve the result.

Retain the original photograph until the application is accepted. If a form rejects the prepared file, identify which rule failed rather than repeatedly resizing it. A file can match its nominal dimensions and still fail a format, size, recency or composition rule. Some official procedures change, so check the present instructions for the specific submission route.
