# What can Shard Tools do?

Shard Tools offers free browser utilities for PDFs, images, documents, data,
and calculations. The [tool directory](https://shard.tools/) is the current
catalogue; browser tools require no Shard Tools account. There is no separate
paid pricing page for these browser tools. Check the individual tool before
assuming a format, file-size limit, or result is supported.

For example, the [image compressor](https://shard.tools/tools/compress-image-to-100kb)
targets a 100KB upload ceiling, while the [PDF splitter](https://shard.tools/tools/split-pdf)
extracts page ranges or batches. The [image format guide](https://shard.tools/guides/convert-image-formats-without-uploading)
explains why changing a filename extension is not conversion. A receiving
service may accept only JPG or PNG even if another format produces a smaller
file. Inspect the downloaded type, dimensions, readability, and byte count.

Browser file tools process selected files on the visitor's device. The optional
