Privacy Policy

The short version

File tools opened on this website run inside your own browser. When you choose a file, that page processes it in your device's memory and offers a local download. Those browser tools do not send your file to Shard Tools for processing. Edge Assisted MCP file actions are separate and send file bytes to Cloudflare for the request.

AI assistants can also call the Shard Tools MCP endpoint. No-file calculations, such as unit conversions and simple business calculators, may run on Cloudflare edge compute using only the numbers and units you provide. The MCP can also split PDFs or combine images when an assistant sends the attached file to an Edge Assisted action. Those bytes are processed in memory for that request and returned without a stored file library.

Files you open with a tool

Files used in browser tools stay in the browser tab. You can inspect that behavior in the Network panel. The browser workflow has these boundaries:

• Browser tool routes reject POST, PUT, PATCH and DELETE with a 405 response. The separate /mcp endpoint accepts POST for AI assistant actions, including Edge Assisted file processing.
• The Content Security Policy restricts third-party connections. Browser tool code keeps selected files in the tab; the policy alone does not prevent an upload to our MCP endpoint.
• Results are produced as temporary in-memory references that exist only in the open tab. Closing or reloading the tab discards both the file you chose and anything derived from it.

You can verify browser-local processing yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network panel, and use a browser tool. Its processing step sends no request carrying your selected file. The privacy proof demonstrates this with an image resize.

Local Private and Edge Assisted modes

Shard Tools uses two names so the workflow is clear:

• Local Private means files stay in the browser tab. This is the default for PDF, image, document, spreadsheet, and other file tools.
• Edge Assisted means an AI assistant asks Shard Tools edge compute to do deterministic work. For file actions such as PDF batching or image-to-PDF preparation, the assistant sends the file bytes to the edge for that request. Shard Tools returns the result directly and does not retain it in an account, file library, or resale dataset.

Cookies

Shard Tools sets no cookies of its own and does not use local storage to track you. Google and its advertising partners may set cookies or use similar technologies for ad delivery, measurement, and fraud prevention where permitted. Our consent message handles choices for users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland.

Analytics

No analytics script, tag manager, or session recorder runs in your browser. There is no separate analytics request. AdSense loads a separate advertising script and may make requests for ads, consent, measurement, and fraud prevention. Cloudflare provides traffic and performance measurements from ordinary HTTP requests. The MCP Worker also records limited operational metrics for tool calls.

Advertising requests do not carry the files or text processed inside browser tools. Browser tool inputs stay on your device. An Edge Assisted MCP file action sends its input to Cloudflare edge compute for that request and returns its output to the assistant.

Accounts and personal data

Browser tools require no account or sign-in. Shard Tools has no stored file library for Edge Assisted results and does not ask for payment details to use these tools. Ordinary web requests and MCP calls still produce operational metadata at Cloudflare.

Hosting and server logs

The site is served through Cloudflare. As with any website, their infrastructure processes the technical information required to deliver a page to you, such as your IP address and the address of the page requested. MCP file requests also pass through Cloudflare. Shard Tools records the tool name, success or failure, duration and byte counts for MCP calls, without deliberately logging file names, contents or prompts. Cloudflare's infrastructure and retention practices are governed by its own policies.

Your rights

Data protection laws such as the GDPR and UK GDPR give you rights to access, correct, and erase personal data held about you. We do not maintain a user account or stored document library. Contact us if you have a question about information associated with a request.

Children

The site is a general-purpose set of utilities and is not directed at children. Browser tools do not ask children to create an account. Edge Assisted requests and ordinary web traffic have the same processing boundaries described above.

Changes to this policy

If the site changes its advertising, consent, analytics, or file-processing model, this page will be updated in the same change that introduces it. A privacy policy that lags behind the product is worse than none.
