# What can Shard Tools MCP do?

The public endpoint is https://shard.tools/mcp. Use the
[human-readable setup and capability guide](https://shard.tools/guides/install-shard-tools-mcp)
for client connection steps and current action descriptions. It currently
requires no Shard Tools account or API key; individual AI clients may have
their own account requirements or may not support custom remote MCP servers.

The endpoint can suggest a browser-tool link, perform deterministic no-file
conversions and calculations, and run selected Edge Assisted file actions.
Current file actions include text-layer PDF-to-Markdown with source-page
markers, PDF batching, multi-image PDF preparation, and limited compression
attempts. Edge Assisted file actions send bytes to Cloudflare for that request;
they are not browser-local. See the [privacy policy](https://shard.tools/privacy)
before sending sensitive material.

PDF-to-Markdown has an 8 MB request limit; image preparation accepts up to
30 MB of source images per request before normalization, as documented in the
[MCP guide](https://shard.tools/guides/install-shard-tools-mcp). Scanned PDF
pages need OCR elsewhere. Visual rendering may require a local desktop
utility; a future companion for automating that handoff is planned, not live.
Compression reports whether a target was reached rather than guaranteeing it.
Check returned files, manifests, source-page mapping, and warnings.
