PNG is excellent for transparent graphics, screenshots, diagrams, and images that need exact pixel preservation. It is not accepted everywhere, and photographic PNG files can be unnecessarily large. JPG is the compatibility format requested by many forms, print kiosks, office applications, and older upload systems. This converter performs a real format change rather than renaming the extension. The browser decodes the PNG, places any transparent pixels onto a white background, and writes a new JPEG at the same width and height. Nothing is uploaded. Before downloading, you can see the new dimensions and measured byte size, which helps catch the two consequences that matter most: transparency becomes permanent background color and JPEG introduces lossy compression.
Shape and export choices
- The picker is restricted to PNG input so the page's promise and selected file stay aligned. A filename with .png is decoded by the browser and must contain readable image data before conversion can continue.
- A new canvas is created with the PNG's original pixel dimensions. The tool does not crop, stretch, rotate, or enlarge the picture during a basic format conversion.
- The canvas is filled with white before the PNG is drawn. This is essential because JPEG has no alpha channel; without an explicit background, transparent areas can appear black or vary between encoders.

Flatten a transparent product image
A product cutout with transparent surroundings becomes a product on solid white. This can be useful for marketplace forms that require JPG, but inspect soft shadows and light-colored edges before publishing.
Keep screenshots as PNG when possible
Small text and interface lines are naturally suited to PNG. Convert only when compatibility demands JPG, then zoom into lettering to confirm that lossy artifacts remain acceptable.
Check the image before download
- Transparency is permanently flattened onto white. A logo designed for a dark background may gain a visible white rectangle or pale edge pixels. Keep the original PNG when transparency could be needed later.
- JPEG is lossy. Fine text, one-pixel lines, interface screenshots, and sharp illustrations may show halos or softened edges. PNG often remains the better working format for those subjects.
- The JPEG may not always be smaller. Tiny flat-color PNG graphics can compress extremely well, while JPEG carries its own headers and may describe crisp synthetic shapes inefficiently.
- Animated PNG files are not exported as an animation. JPEG represents one still image and cannot contain APNG timing or multiple frames.
- PNG metadata, textual chunks, embedded profiles, and software-specific fields are not copied. The output is a new visual rendering rather than an archival container conversion.
Questions about PNG to JPG
What happens to transparent PNG areas?
They are composited onto white before JPEG encoding. JPEG cannot store transparency, so the background color becomes permanent in the downloaded file.
Will PNG to JPG reduce file size?
Often for photographs, but not always for logos, icons, or very small flat-color graphics. The result panel reports the actual generated size so you can compare it with the source.
Does the converter change image dimensions?
No. The JPG is created at the PNG's original pixel width and height. Resizing and exact-size compression are separate operations.
Can I keep transparency in a JPG?
