PNG is the format screenshots, exported diagrams and scanned receipts usually arrive in, and PDF is what people want to send them as: one file, fixed layout, opens identically everywhere. The important detail in this conversion is that a PDF can hold a PNG directly. The image does not have to be redrawn or re-compressed on the way in; it is embedded exactly as it is, so a lossless source stays lossless inside the document. That matters more than it sounds, because many converters rasterize everything to JPEG internally, and a screenshot full of small text is precisely the material JPEG handles worst. Text that was crisp in the PNG comes out of such a tool visibly fuzzy. Here the bytes are placed into the document untouched.
What happens to the PDF
- Each file is identified by its actual content rather than its name. The PNG signature is checked in the first bytes, so a mislabelled file is caught before it can produce a broken document.
- The image is embedded into the PDF in its original encoding. Nothing is decoded, resampled or re-compressed, so transparency and exact pixel values are preserved.
- By default each page takes the image's own dimensions, so nothing is scaled, cropped or letterboxed. A tall screenshot produces a tall page.
- Choosing A4 or Letter instead fits each image inside a standard sheet with a margin, orienting the page to match the image and never enlarging beyond the original size, since upscaling only adds blur.
- Pages appear in the order the files are listed, and that order can be changed before the document is built.

Check before relying on the PDF
- PNG is lossless, so the resulting PDF is often large. A handful of full-screen screenshots can easily produce a document of several megabytes; that is the cost of not degrading them.
- Transparent areas have no defined appearance in a printed PDF and will usually render as white. Flatten the image first if the background matters.
- The text inside a screenshot remains an image. The PDF is not searchable and cannot be selected as text; that requires optical character recognition, which is not offered here.
- Animated PNG files contribute a single frame only, since a PDF page is static.
- Very large images stay large. Reduce their dimensions before converting if the document has to fit an email attachment limit.
Questions about PNG to PDF
Is quality lost?
No. The PNG is embedded exactly as it is, without being decoded or re-compressed, so the document contains the original pixels.
Why is the PDF so large?
Because PNG stores every pixel exactly. If size matters more than fidelity, convert the images to JPG first and build the PDF from those.
Can I mix PNG and JPG files?
Yes. Both are embedded natively, each keeping its own encoding, and the format is detected from the file's bytes.
Will the text in my screenshots be searchable?
No. The page holds a picture of text, not text. Making it searchable needs OCR, which this tool does not do.
