Cropping is the most common edit anyone makes and the one most often done badly by web tools. The usual failure is quiet: the site shows a small preview, you draw a box on it, and the file you get back is the size of that preview rather than the size of your photo. A twelve megapixel picture comes back at eight hundred pixels wide and nobody mentions it. This tool separates the two ideas completely. The box you drag is a selection expressed in the photograph's own pixels, and the cut is taken from the full decoded picture, so what you receive is exactly as detailed as what you started with.
Shape and export choices
- Choose a picture. It is decoded once so its true dimensions are known, and the rotation flag written by phone cameras is applied at that moment. What you see is therefore the right way up, and the selection lines up with the pixels that will actually be cut.
- Drag to choose the region. Move the whole box by dragging inside it, or take hold of any corner to resize. The controls respond to touch as well as a mouse, so this works on a phone without a separate mobile version.
- Lock a shape if the destination demands one. Square suits profile pictures, sixteen by nine suits video thumbnails, and nine by sixteen suits vertical stories. With a shape locked, dragging a corner keeps the proportion instead of drifting, and the selection is never pushed past an edge of the picture.
- Crop and save. The exact pixel dimensions are shown before and after, and the file downloads from this tab. Choose JPG for photographs, PNG when transparency or crisp edges matter, or WebP for a smaller file at similar quality.

Removing something from the edge
A stray hand or a passer-by at the frame's edge disappears by pulling that corner inward, which is faster and safer than any kind of retouching.
Check the image before download
- The preview is scaled to fit the panel, and the percentage is stated when it is. That figure describes the preview only. The cut itself always reads the original pixels, which is why a selection that looks small on screen can still produce a large, sharp file.
- Cropping removes pixels and cannot invent them. A small region of an already small picture yields a small result; enlarging it afterwards will look soft no matter what enlarges it. Start from the largest version of the photograph you have.
- Saving as JPG cannot keep transparency and fills those areas with white, because the format has no way to record them and would otherwise render them black. Choose PNG or WebP when a cut-out background has to survive.
- Re-encoding drops the metadata that came with the original, including the camera model, the capture time, and any GPS coordinates. That is usually welcome before sharing a photograph publicly, but note anything you need to keep before you crop.
Questions about Crop Image
Does cropping reduce the quality of what remains?
The pixels you keep are read from the original at full resolution, so nothing is scaled down. Saving as JPG or WebP does apply the usual lossy encoding to that region, so choose PNG if you want the kept pixels preserved exactly.
Will it work on my phone?
Yes. The selection responds to touch, so you can drag the box and its corners directly. Rotation recorded by the camera is applied when the photo is opened, so portrait shots appear upright rather than on their side.
Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
The selection reports its exact pixel width and height as you drag, so you can watch the numbers and stop where you want. If you need a precise final size regardless of what you selected, crop here first and then use the exact-dimension resizer.
Why is my selection snapping to a shape?
A fixed proportion is locked. Switch the shape control back to Free and the box will resize in any direction you drag.
