PSI to bar formula
Multiply pounds per square inch by 0.0689475729 to get bar. For example, 32 multiplied by 0.0689475729 gives 2.2063223328 bar, or 2.21 bar to two decimal places. Divide by that factor for the reverse direction. The factor used in the tool is a rounded representation; extra output digits do not make the original gauge reading more accurate.
Common pressure conversions
Useful reference values are 30 PSI = 2.06843 bar, 35 PSI = 2.41317 bar, 40 PSI = 2.7579 bar, 60 PSI = 4.13685 bar, and 100 PSI = 6.89476 bar. These are unit conversions, not recommended operating pressures. Match the specification for the particular equipment.
Gauge pressure and absolute pressure
Changing units does not change the reference point. A reading in psig converts to gauge bar; a reading in psia converts to absolute bar. To switch between gauge and absolute pressure you also need the surrounding atmospheric pressure. The calculator does not add or subtract it automatically.
Reading a specification against a gauge
Start with the value and unit on the specification, convert that number, and compare it with a gauge using the same pressure reference. Round only at the end to the resolution the gauge can show. A pump display reading tenths of a bar cannot represent every decimal shown by this converter.
