Matching a US gauge
A boiler at 1.5 bar reads about 21.75 PSI on a US pressure gauge.

Browse all general convertersBar is the pressure unit of European specs, automotive manuals and technical equipment, but to match it against a US gauge or a tyre listed in PSI you convert to pounds per square inch. Converting bar to PSI turns a metric pressure into the unit US pumps, gauges and stickers use. One bar is about 14.5 PSI. The common case is again tyres: a European car may specify 2.2 bar while a US air pump reads PSI, so you convert to inflate correctly. Getting pressure right is not cosmetic - under-inflation wears the edges of a tyre and wastes fuel, over-inflation wears the centre and reduces grip. Beyond tyres, pressure-washer ratings, boiler pressures and gas regulators cross between bar and PSI depending on where they were made. Because one bar is about 14.5 PSI, multiplying bar by roughly 14.5 gives a quick estimate, with the exact factor for anything that must be precise. A bar-to-PSI conversion preserves the pressure reference: gauge pressure does not become absolute pressure.

Need the opposite? The psi-to-bar converter is linked below and uses the exact inverse factor.
A label of 2 bar converts to about 29.01 PSI, but the conversion does not change its reference point. A gauge pressure remains a gauge pressure; an absolute reading remains absolute. Before comparing equipment labels, check whether they say barg, bara, psig or psia. Two numbers in the same unit can still describe different conditions. Use the equipment specification to resolve that difference before setting a regulator.
One PSI is about 0.069 bar. Conversely, one bar is roughly 14.5 PSI, so 2 bar is about 29 PSI.
No. Bar to PSI does the arithmetic in this browser tab; the value is calculated on your device and is not sent to a server.
