Shape and export choices
- Confirm JPEG is an accepted output, then select the best available original. Avoid a screenshot of a photograph when the original photo is available because it may contain less useful detail.
- Read the reported dimensions after processing, especially for very large sources. This preset can limit the starting width to 8000 pixels and can shrink further while searching for a result.
- Compare the saved JPEG at the display scale the recipient will use. For a zoomable product image, inspect detail at high zoom as well as the full-frame composition.
Good fits for Compress image to 1MB
A photograph with fine fabric detail
Inspect the weave and repeated patterns after compression. A reduced file can look clear from a distance while introducing block artefacts or false-looking edges in those areas. Use the saved result at the actual product-viewer scale to judge whether the detail remains useful.
A large panorama
A very wide source can encounter the preset's initial width limit before the byte search finishes. If the recipient needs the full original resolution, compare the reported width with that requirement. Meeting 1MB does not establish that the original pixel count survived.
Check the image before download
- The binary 1MB ceiling is 1,048,576 bytes. Some upload systems use 1,000,000 bytes, so a near-limit result can still be rejected. Set a smaller limit where that definition applies.
- A transparent input becomes an opaque JPEG with background fill. This can be appropriate for a photo attachment but unsuitable for a logo layered over another image.
- Compression does not add missing detail to a small or blurred source. Enlarging or re-encoding such a picture cannot recover information that was never captured.
Questions about Compress image to 1MB
Does 1MB guarantee no visible quality change?
No. The result depends on the source and how it will be viewed. Check the parts containing the information you need rather than assuming a file-size threshold makes compression invisible.
Why use a larger target?
A larger allowed budget can retain more detail or dimensions than a tighter target for the same source. Choose the receiver's permitted limit and compare results; there is no quality benefit in forcing an unnecessarily small file.
