Browse all specialized calculatorsA tile calculator works out how many tiles a floor or wall needs from the area and the tile size, and adds a waste allowance for the cuts and breakages every real job produces. Ordering the exact number is a mistake - a cracked tile or a bad cut at the end of the job means a delay and a dye-lot risk - so the tool builds in a margin you control. Enter the room size, tile size and waste percentage, and the tile count appears instantly. The waste allowance is the part people skip and regret. Every tiling job produces cuts at the edges and the odd cracked tile, and ordering the exact count means a single mistake near the end halts the job while you hunt for a matching tile - which, from a different production batch, may not match at all. This calculator adds a waste percentage you control on top of the raw count so your order absorbs the inevitable losses. Ten per cent suits a simple straight grid; diagonal layouts, patterns and rooms full of awkward angles push it to fifteen or twenty because they generate far more part-tiles. It assumes square tiles and a rectangular room, so break complex spaces into rectangles and total them.

The waste margin means a cracked tile mid-job does not halt everything.
If the calculation requires 132 tiles and a box contains 10, order 14 boxes to cover the count. That packaging round-up is separate from the waste percentage already included. Check the actual tile dimensions and batch availability before placing an order.
Divide the floor area by the area of one tile, then add a waste margin. The tool does both.
10% for a simple grid; 15–20% for diagonal or patterned layouts with more cuts.
