Scanners and phone cameras decide orientation on their own, and they get it wrong constantly. A batch fed through a sheet feeder lands on its side, one sheet goes in upside down, and a viewer that lets you spin the display never writes that correction into the file, so the next person opens the same crooked document. This tool writes the correction into the document itself. Your browser opens the file from your disk, changes the stored orientation of the pages you choose, and saves a corrected copy locally. Nothing is transmitted, which matters when the crooked scan happens to be a lease, a medical result, or an identity document.
What happens to the PDF
- Pick a file. The sheet total is read straight away so you know the numbering you are working with. Nothing is altered until you ask for it.
- Pick a direction. A quarter turn right suits a sheet that came through the feeder lying on its left side, a quarter turn left fixes the opposite case, and a half turn corrects a sheet that went in the wrong way round.
- Decide the scope. Applying to every sheet handles a whole batch that came out consistently wrong. Choosing specific sheets, written as something like 2,7-9, handles the more common case where a feeder swallowed one page the wrong way and the rest are already fine.
- Save the corrected copy. Because orientation is a stored property of each sheet rather than a picture of one, nothing is redrawn: the file stays the same size, text stays selectable, and quality is untouched.

Correcting a photographed receipt
A receipt captured in landscape reads sideways in every viewer. One quarter turn stores the fix so the accounts team is not tilting their heads at it.
Check before relying on the PDF
- Turns accumulate. The chosen angle is added to whatever the sheet already stores, so a sheet held at a quarter turn that receives another quarter turn ends up inverted. Two successive quarter turns in the same direction are not a way back to upright; a matching turn in the opposite direction is.
- What a viewer shows you is not always what the file stores. Some readers apply their own temporary spin, and phone galleries frequently guess. Confirm the corrected copy in a different reader before assuming the change did not take.
- A digitally signed document cannot be corrected and stay signed. Validation covers the exact bytes, and changing stored orientation changes them. The tool reports this rather than quietly producing a copy whose signature no longer checks out.
- A file with password protection has to be unlocked first. The tool distinguishes protection from damage and says which it found, so you know whether to save an unprotected copy or chase down a bad download.
Questions about Rotate PDF
Does turning a page reduce quality or increase file size?
Neither. Orientation is a stored number on each sheet, not a picture. Nothing is re-rendered or re-compressed, so the visual result is identical to the original and the size barely moves.
Do fillable boxes still work afterwards?
Yes. This operation edits the document in place instead of copying sheets into a new container, so the definitions that make boxes answerable stay attached. That is a real difference from splitting or combining documents, where those definitions are left behind.
Can I straighten only part of a document?
Yes. Switch the scope to specific sheets and describe them the same way you would a print range, such as 2,7-9. Everything you do not name is written out unchanged.
Why does my sheet look upside down after two corrections?
Angles add rather than replace. Two quarter turns in the same direction total a half turn. To undo a quarter turn, apply a quarter turn the other way instead of repeating the first one.
