Runs entirely on your deviceThe conversion happens in this browser tab. Nothing you type is uploaded, logged or stored, which is worth knowing for anything you would not paste into a search box.

A US recipe calling for 350 °F converts to about 176.7 °C. Most ovens cannot be set that precisely, so 175 °C or 180 °C is the practical dial setting; fan-assisted ovens may also require the recipe maker's separate adjustment.

About Fahrenheit to Celsius

Fahrenheit is the temperature scale of the United States - weather, ovens, thermostats - but the rest of the world, and all of science, reads Celsius. Converting Fahrenheit to Celsius turns an American temperature into the metric figure everyone else uses. The formula subtracts thirty-two and multiplies by five-ninths, so a 100 °F fever is about 37.8 °C and a 350 °F oven is a familiar 177 °C to a metric cook. US recipes and thermostats are the usual reasons: an oven dial or a slow-cooker setting in Fahrenheit has to become Celsius before a metric appliance can match it. Meat-safety and candy-making temperatures from US cooking sites convert to Celsius so a metric probe thermometer can hit the same target. A Fahrenheit temperature difference needs only the scale factor, not the offset used for an actual temperature reading.

Using Fahrenheit to Celsius

  1. Type a number of degrees. You can paste a value with its unit; the tool reads the number.
  2. The exact factor is applied and the result is shown as °C, updating live as you type.
  3. Copy the answer, or switch to the reverse converter to go from °C back to °F.

Where fahrenheit to celsius helps

A US oven setting

A 350 °F recipe becomes about 177 °C for a metric oven dial.

Both directions

Need the opposite? The °C-to-°F converter is linked below and uses the exact inverse factor.

Convert the number before choosing a setting

Subtract 32 from a Fahrenheit reading before multiplying by 5/9. For 212 F, the calculation is (212 - 32) x 5/9 = 100 C; multiplying first would give a different answer. An oven dial may only offer five- or ten-degree increments, so round after converting. Fan-assisted settings and equipment calibration are separate adjustments and are not part of this unit conversion.
