Celsius is the temperature scale nearly everywhere, anchored to water freezing at 0 and boiling at 100. The United States uses Fahrenheit instead. The formula multiplies by nine-fifths and adds thirty-two, so 20 °C is a mild 68 °F and 37 °C body temperature is 98.6 °F. Travellers reading a foreign forecast in Celsius are the classic case: knowing that 30 °C is a hot 86 °F decides whether you pack shorts or a coat. Wine and cheese storage guidance written in Celsius becomes Fahrenheit for a US fridge dial, where a couple of degrees changes how something keeps. For a temperature interval, multiply by 1.8 without adding 32; this converter is for temperature readings. For example, warming from 10 to 20 Celsius is an 18-degree Fahrenheit increase, not a 50-degree increase: the 32-degree offset cancels when subtracting readings.

A temperature change uses a different calculation
The offset of 32 applies to a temperature reading, not to the difference between two readings. A rise from 20 C to 30 C is a 10 C change and an 18 F change: the endpoints are 68 F and 86 F. Convert both endpoints here when comparing a heating interval. Adding 32 to the interval itself would incorrectly turn a 10 C rise into a 50 F rise.
