Use MB to GB

Converts megabytes to gigabytes in this tab, with nothing sent anywhere.

Runs entirely on your deviceThe conversion happens in this browser tab. Nothing you type is uploaded, logged or stored, which is worth knowing for anything you would not paste into a search box.

A 1,536 MB download is 1.5 GB using binary multiples. Mobile providers generally sell decimal gigabytes, and protocol overhead can add traffic, so the amount deducted from a data allowance may not match this file-size conversion.

About MB to GB

Downloads, backups and phone storage are measured in megabytes and gigabytes, and it is easy to lose track of how many megabytes make a meaningful chunk of a gigabyte plan. Converting megabytes to gigabytes clarifies it: at 1024 MB per GB, a 2048 MB download is 2 GB and a 512 MB app is half a gigabyte of your storage. Phone plans and cloud storage are sold in gigabytes, so seeing how many megabytes of photos and apps you have makes it clear how much of the allowance is actually spent. Game and OS updates are announced in megabytes but downloaded against a gigabyte cap, so converting shows how much of a monthly allowance one update costs. A capacity conversion does not predict how many files will fit unless their actual sizes are also known. For example, summing several file sizes in MB before converting to GB avoids accumulating rounding errors from converting each file separately.

Using MB to GB

  1. Type a number of MB. You can paste a value with its unit; the tool reads the number.
  2. The exact factor is applied and the result is shown as GB, updating live as you type.
  3. Copy the answer, or switch to the reverse converter to go from GB back to MB.

Where mb to gb helps

A data-plan chunk

A 1536 MB download uses about 1.5 GB of a data plan.

Match the convention used by the destination

Under the 1024-based rule here, 3072 MB is 3 GB. Under a decimal rule, the same numeric MB input would be 3.072 GB. The difference comes from the convention, not missing data. A device may use binary quantities while displaying familiar MB and GB labels; inspect the source's definition when reconciling an apparent capacity mismatch.

Questions about MB to GB

Is 1 GB 1000 MB?

This tool uses 1024 MB per GB, the binary convention devices report in. Some marketing counts 1000, which is why advertised and displayed capacities differ.

Is my data uploaded?

No. MB to GB does the arithmetic in this browser tab; the value is calculated on your device and is not sent to a server.
